ALA 421
During this semester, I have had the privilege to be a part of ALA 421, a course dedicated to building inclusive communities as a preparation for my Residential Advisor position at the University of Michigan. Many of the assignment for the class have a component that deals with or introduces identity exposure or the facilitation of conversations. So, in hopes to keep track of my experiences and reflections, I have dedicated this page. ENJOY!
Partner Assignment
For this Assignment, everyone in the ALA 421 class was assigned a partner with the task to meet for an hour and get to know each other. I partnered with LSA Sophomore Ashley Carroll.

Social Identity Testimonials
For our second Sunday session, we were asked to conduct two testimonials that shared our perspective through the lens of a social identity; one identity was to be privileged and the other marginalized. I wrote about being a man (privileged) and the other of being Mexican (marginalized).

Facilitation of Readings
For this assignment, I was partnered with Corey Dulin and we spent our time creating a facilitation on Microaggressions based on the readings for the week. Although a discussion is effective in getting thoughts and feelings across, we realized having interactive activities would benefit in having the class aware and attentive. Therefore, we focused most of our time to addressing microaggressions through a small discussion and a small group activity.

Group Facilitation/Inequality Project
This event was a collaboration event in which a group colleagues/classmates came together and created a 30 minute facilitation plan for the class. This topic hit close to heart since it had to do with the admission rates across different racial backgrounds.
